Can Dogs Eat Hummus?

Is hummus good or bad for dogs? The word hummus does not sound like something that would be kind to my dog’s stomach.

I researched the contents and decided right away that hummus is not suitable for dogs. Dogs need well-prepared dog food.

Hummus contains ingredients that are best digested by humans. Hummus is a dip made with chickpeas, olive oil, garlic, tahini, lemon juice, and salt.

Sometimes it has other added ingredients, like red pepper or pine nuts. Do those ingredients sound like items to put into dog food? I do not think so.

It Is Not Recommended For Dogs To Eat Hummus

Two ingredients can be found in hummus that is poisonous to dogs.

Garlic is always in hummus and some people may also add onions. This food is extremely healthy for humans as it contains antioxidants. It is okay to give your dog a bite of your sandwich, especially if it is a steak or chicken sandwich.

However, allowing him to lick at your dish of hummus will rapidly ensure that you visit your vet.

Eating hummus will cause vomiting and diarrhea; you need to get your dog to the vet as quickly as possible to cure the problem.

Can Dogs Eat Hummus Without Garlic And Lemon Juice?

If you really must, you can feed your dog a harmless version of hummus. Which means that there will be no garlic, and no lemon juice mixed into the hummus. Changing the recipe will also change the name of the product.

I cannot understand why you would prefer to feed this recipe to your dog instead of wholesome nourishing dog food.

Before you do this action you need to consider the consequences on your dog’s body. Read more research on feeding human food to dogs just to be safe.

Chickpeas Can Be A Safe Alternative To Hummus For Your Dogs

Raw chickpeas can be boiled without garlic and onions and be made into a bland snack with nutritional and health benefits for your dog.

Chickpeas contain nutrients to lower blood pressure in your dog and aid in heart health. These peas also release energy slowly and avoid the lows and highs in glucose that cause diabetes. Cancer prevention is another powerful characteristic of chickpeas.

The choline in chickpeas reduces inflammation in elderly dogs that may suffer from osteoarthritis.

The fiber of the chickpeas reduces the need to eat large amounts of food as well as to improve bowel movements and decrease constipation.
